RICE LAKE -- Arnold "Arnie" J. Eckes, 67, of Rice
Lake, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009, after his battle with
cancer at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Marshfield.
He was born May 31, 1942, to Andrew and Helen
(Kolbeck) Eckes at Abbotsford, Wis. Arnie graduated from the Loyal High
School in 1960. He entered the U.S. Navy, where he was a signal man
first class and served for four years. He was discharged in 1964.
He worked at the Chevrolet Plant in Janesville until
1967.
Arnie was married to Sandra Martin on March 5,
1967, in Janesville. They moved to Marshfield and he worked at
Saint Joseph's Hospital for 25 years. They moved to Rice Lake in
1991, where he worked for Dave's Electric in Rice Lake until his
retirement in December 2008.
Arnie was a member of the VFW in Mikana and avid
outdoorsman. He was also a member of the Woodcarvers Association
and Power Engineers Association. He was an avid hunter and loved
being on the water. Arnie was also a chain saw artist and wood
carver for 15 years in Rice Lake. His work is seen all over the
United States.
Arnie Eckes is survived by his wife, Sandra
Eckes, of Rice Lake; two sons and daughter-in-law, Kurt Eckes of
Hillsboro, and Roger and Barb Eckes of White Fish Bay; a
granddaughter, Olivia Eckes; two brothers, Ronald Eckes of
Marshfield and Kenneth Eckes of Weyerhaeuser; two sisters, Donna
Welch of Marshfield and Elaine Hubatch of Long Beach, Calif.; and
many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew
and Helen Eckes; and a sister, Cecilia Koeberl.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Appleyard's Home for Funerals, with
interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at Spooner.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Appleyard's
Home for Funerals.
Memorials would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
