Bernice E. Urlaub, 94, of Neillsville died
Friday, July 24, 2009, at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation
Center in Neillsville.
Bernice Elizabeth (Lothspeich) Urlaub was born
April 10, 1915, the daughter of John Martin and Christina Marie
(Dohman) Lothspeich, in Langdon, ND. Bernice was united in
marriage to Francis Urlaub Oct. 20, 1936, at St. Alphonse’s
Church in Langdon, ND. They lived in Walhalla, ND, until 1941 when
they moved to San Diego, CA where they lived until 1950. In
March of that year they came to the Neillsville area and lived on a
dairy farm in the Town of Weston for 24 years. Bernice and Francis
retired from farming in April 1971 and moved to Neillsville.
Bernice then worked for 10 years as a nurse’s aid at the
Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville. Francis died April 4,
2000.
Bernice was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Neillsville, St. Cecelia’s Circle, and she was also
a member of the Happy Hollow Homemakers. Bernice enjoyed fishing,
playing Sheepshead and Spite and Malice, gardening, cooking and
especially making Sunday dinner for her family.
She
is survived by three children, Benny (Jenny) Urlaub of Neillsville,
Janis (Lee) Steinhilber of Wisconsin Rapids and Beverly
(Eugene) Bryan of Neillsville; 14 grandchildren, 45
great-grandchildren and nine great-great- grandchildren; a brother,
Raymond Lothspeich of La Mesa, CA; and two sisters, Rita LaDuca of
Los Angeles, CA, and Jean (Dick) Duquette of Hemet,
CA.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband, Francis; two grandchildren, Donald Bryan and Gregory
Urlaub; a brother Jack; and sisters, Alice and Marie.
A
Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bernice at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Neillsville. Father Woodrow Pace will be the Celebrant.
Providing music will be Ronald Resong, organist, Rita Kuchenbecker,
soloist and St. Mary’s Choir. Visitation will be held
from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at St.
Mary’s. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic
Cemetery in Neillsville.
Casketbearers will be David Steinhilber, Mark
Steinhilber, Brian Urlaub, Jeff Urlaub, Jim Urlaub, John Urlaub,
and Cain Trunkel.
In
lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations be made on
Bernice’s behalf to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1813
Black River Rd., Neillsville, WI 54456.
The
Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Bernice’s family with
arrangements.
