Boie Family Reunion (2009)
Submitted by June (Boie) Larson ~
On
July 18th, the Boie semi-annual family reunion was held
at Lake Sherwood Lodge in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, and was hosted by the
Harvey and Byron Boie Families.
Ninety-one relatives attended the reunion!
Members come from North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Minnesota, and
many Wisconsin locations.
It
was a happy day for everyone! There were lots of hugs, family
news was exchanged and relatives got acquainted and re-acquainted
with each other.
Robin Mohr wrote a "Boie" song which we all sang
with gusto! Pauline Boie led us in prayer and also remembered
those not present. A fun quiz was given to each new arrival
and it was given much thought and attention.
Accommodations were terrific everywhere! Name
tags and sign-in sheets were available as guests were greeted upon
arrival. A pavilion was available for visiting and
refreshments. What a groaning, beautiful banquet of food (a
feast fit for kings!) was arranged by the resort.
The
hosts, Rich and Carol Boie and family, Russ and Paulette Boie and
family, Gary, Cindy and Eric Boie, with Ron and Janet Boie, should
receive an Oscar for their portrayal of our ancestors! Those
portrayed were Grandpa John; daughter, Lillian; sons, George, Oscar
and Harry; and various other family members. The costumes,
portrayal, personalities, and descriptions were absolutely
terrific! We loved every minute of it. We will enjoy
the snapshots and videos forever.
Pontoon rides on Sherwood Lake were enjoyed by
many adults and especially by the children.
Also, our hats are off to Carol, Paulette, Mary
and Yvonne for a difficult but wonderful job of compiling a
complete family history. Lots of hours on e-mail and
telephones were helpful in gathering the information from everyone,
near and far. Yvonne typed all the pages into a pamphlet, had
it printed, and 72 people are enjoying a copy. A wonderful
accomplishment and a big, sincere thanks to all who participated in
this project.
People reluctantly left for home at sunset and
the "over nighters" gathered at the summer home of Russ and
Paulette for a bonfire. Twenty or so people encircled the
fire enjoying stories, jokes, and visiting. Later, we enjoyed
marshmallows, brats, and wieners roasted over the fire. What
a wonderful day!
A
sincere thanks to the "brothers three," their wives and family
members for a terrific reunion.
The next family reunion will be held in Thorp, Wisconsin and hosted by Norval and Mae’s family: Chuck, Connie, Janice, Dale and Duane. See you there! Don’t miss it!
