Nissen, Robert (1888 - 12 NOV 1952)
Residents of this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) were shocked late yesterday forenoon when they learned of the death of one of its most highly respected citizens, Robert M. Nissen. Mr. Nissen, 64, succumbed to a heart attack suffered while driving his car on a county truck road in the Town of Maplehurst about 11:30 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Saturday afternoon from the First Congregational Church, Owen, with Rev. Arthur Meinhardt officiating. Burial will be made at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at Griebenow’s Funeral Home tomorrow and tomorrow night.
Mr. Nissen had been in Owen earlier in the forenoon and seen many of his friends. He stated he was going to look for a carpenter to assist he and his son Clark in construction of a new 40 x 60 foot machine shed they are building on his farm in the Town of Hoard. About an hour later they learned of his death.
Taylor County authorities said he apparently suffered a heart attack driving and just as his car came onto the bridge spanning Black River in the Town of Maplehurst near David McVey’s farm. The left side of the car struck the guard railing and then swerved across to the opposite side of the bridge before coming to a stop. The car was badly damaged.
