Richard H. Mott, 84, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Richard Harvey Mott, son of George and Bada (Hasselquist) Mott, was born Sept. 17, 1924 in Neillsville. He grew up and graduated from high school there. Richard attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a baseball scholarship. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering. Richard then entered the U. S. Air Force and served in Okinawa.
Richard was united in marriage to Betty Mitchell June 27, 1952, in Naha, Okinawa. After his honorable discharge, the couple returned to the family farm in Wisconsin. Shortly thereafter, Richard worked as an agricultural engineer in several states before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1966. He served as Director of Engineering for Du-Al Manufacturing. Following retirement, Richard worked as an engineering consultant for several companies. He and Betty also enjoyed traveling in retirement.
Richard was a member and Past Worshipful Master of Trinity Lodge #200, A. F. & A. M. He also was a member of the El Raid Shrine and Fife and Drum Corps. In addition, Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Betty; six children, Elaine (Craig) Johnson, Sioux Falls, Cinday (Gary) Campbell, Orlando, FL, Richard E. (Eva) Mott, Sioux Falls, Jeffrey (Sue) Mott, Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Evelyn Kluever, Milwaukee, Irma Zoschke, Milwaukee, Dorothy (Gordon) Kilday, Madison and Alice Barrette, Neillsville; nephew Steven (Bekke) Barrette and niece Carol (Richard) Lewis, both of Neillsville.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alvin and Charles.
Public Masonic Services were at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls. The family greeted friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Richard’s family requests that memorials be directed to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
