Sunday, Oct. 12, marked the golden
wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kalepp, and the occasion
was celebrated with a family dinner at the home at noon, open house
in the afternoon, and an old fashioned charivari in the evening.
A canopy of gold and white streamers and
wedding bells was arranged above the table and a three tier wedding
cake, a gift from the children, was the centerpiece on the table.
For the occasion, Mrs. Kalepp wore a navy
blue dress to which was pinned a shoulder corsage of yellow and
bronze baby mums tied with a gold ribbon.
Mrs. Kalepp, the former Minnie Sauter,
was born in St. Paul, Minn., Dec. 19, 1883. Mr. Kalepp, who was
born in Saxony, Germany, Jan. 30, 1874, came to this country when
he was six years old and settled with his parents on a farm two and
a half miles east of Dorchester. The farm is now owned by Clarence
Kalepp.
The couple were married Oct. 12, 1902, in
Dorchester, at the Lutheran church, with the Rev. Fred Moecker
officiating. The attendants were Ida Leonhardt (now Mrs. Henry
Jacobi, of Abbotsford), Helen Hedrich (now Mrs. John Zahorka,
Colby), August Sauter and the late Gust Huebscher, both of
Dorchester. Mrs. Jacobi and Mr. Sauter were present for the
occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Kalepp lived on the home
farm, except for eight years when they were in Montana, during
which time his brother rented the farm. Twenty-two years ago, they
moved to Abbotsford and operated a tavern until three years ago.
Their son, Norman, now has the tavern.
The Kalepps had eight children, five of
whom are living. They are William, Harold, Norman, and Mrs. Gilbert
(Alice) Kattre, all of Abbotsford; and Clarence, of Dorchester.
There are 16 grand children.
All the children and grand children attended the golden anniversary celebration. Among other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sauter, Mr. and Mrs. Al Sauter, Mr. and Mrs. August Sauter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Sauter and family, Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Sauter and family, all of Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Marcott, Mr. and Mrs. Leopold, Mr. and Mrs. Kavino and family, of Phillips; Mr. and Mrs. E. Simmons and family, Charles Hermanson, Medford; Mrs. B. C. Swarthout, Mr. and Mrs. A. Messer and daughter, Spencer; and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobi, Abbotsford. The Rev. and Mrs. F. H. Sprengler, Dorchester, also called in the evening.
