Hoffman, Mr./Mrs. Charles (50^th Anniv. - 18 Nov. 1952) 
 

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoffman occurred Tuesday, Nov. 18. No celebration had been planned but throughout the day, neighbors and friends called at the home.  
 

In the evening, they were the honored guests at a surprise party at a meeting of the Abbotsford chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, which was also entertaining the Masonic lodge that night. 
 

A mock wedding was the feature of the program. Costumes of 50 years back and longer, were provided for the entire wedding party, with Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman as the bridal pair. Mrs. Bob Hopkins was soloist at the ceremony. 
 

A three tier, decorated wedding cake, topped with a gold ornament, served as a centerpiece for the table and was cut by the bride and groom. Napkins and other table decorations, in harmony with the gold color scheme and bronze and yellow chrysanthemums decorated the table and lodge rooms. 
 

Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman, who had served as past patron and past matron, were presented with a boutonniere and corsage, respectively, and were given a purse. 
 

About 65 guests attended, and from away were Mr. and Mrs. Gust Anderson, Ogema; and Dr. and Mrs. Edward Elvis, Medford. 
 

Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman were married Nov. 18, 1902, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hibbard, at Knowlton, with the Rev. Boetscher, of Wausau, officiating. Mrs. Hoffman’s mother, now Mrs. Alex Ireland, is making her home here and enjoyed the golden anniversary. Their attendants were her sister, Miss Cora Hibbard, and John Van Order, of Stevens Point, a friend of Mr. Hoffman. They are both deceased.  
 

For a period of about ten years, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman lived at Stevens Point and came to Abbotsford 41 years ago. He and A. J. Young operated a saw mill just east of Abbotsford, for about two or three years, when it burned. They then purchased the building where the O & N Lumber Company now is and started a lumber and coal yard. Sixteen years ago, due to ill health and the death of their only child, Harold, Mr. Hoffman retired and the lumber yard was sold to the O & N Lumber Company, the present owners. 
 

For a short time, Mr. Hoffman worked for the Roddis Lumber Company, at Marshfield, and the Streckert Lumber Company, Abbotsford. 
 

Mrs. Hoffman, who is an active member of the Ladies’ Home Mission, and has been its president for many years, was honored at the meeting, Wednesday afternoon. The hostesses had a special gold cake for her, which she cut and served to each one attending.  
 

Callers at the Hoffman home on Monday included Mmes. Walter Reinhold, Alice Lekium, Jean Jackson, Cal Girouix, and Charles Mirmmer, of Wausau.
