Langbecker, Fred (19 May 1872 - 5 Feb. 1953) 
 

Funeral services for Fred Langbecker, 80, who died Feb. 5, were held Monday afternoon at Athens, with the Rev. Richard Harrison, Abbotsford, officiating. Services were held at 1:30 at the Gillis Funeral Home and at 2:00 o’clock at the Presbyterian church, after which internment was made in the Athens cemetery. 
 

Pallbearers were Art and Ed Ewan, Walter Behrendt, George Fullmer, George Heindl, and Herman Zupke, all of Athens. 
 

Relatives from away who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sulik, Abbotsford; Mrs. Rudy Fuller and Mrs. Lillian Haman, of West Allis; Mrs. Ernest Rudecil (Sp. ?), West Allis; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Decker, Dorchester; Miss Mary Ann Sulik, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Neuenfeldt, Superior; and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meske and Milton Meske, Abbotsford. 
 

Many friends and neighbors from Athens, Dorchester, and Abbotsford also attended the funeral. 
 

Fred Langbecker was born May 19, 1872, in Milwaukee. On March 1, 1893, he was married to Hattie Kuenzi, at Oconomowoc. They lived on the farm in the town of Johnson and were the parents of one daughter, who survives. Mrs. Langbecker died in 1905. On Aug. 20, 1907, he and Pauline Stark were married at Wausau. They lived on the farm until Nov. 31, 1951, when they moved to Dorchester. Here she died on May 31, 1952. Mr. Langbecker then came to Abbotsford to make his home with his only daughter, Mrs. Joe Sulik. He suffered chronic asthma for 24 years, but was ill only about a week and a half before his death when he underwent major surgery at St. Joseph’s’ hospital, Marshfield. His death came unexpectedly while he was eating breakfast at the hospital, Thursday morning. 
 

Besides his daughter, he leaves four grand children and nine great grand children. There are four sisters in Milwaukee: Mrs. Lizzie Meyer, Mrs. Ed Brah, Mrs. Rudy Fuller, and Mrs. Lillian Haman. 
 

During the 49 years that Mr. Langbecker lived on the farm, he served at various times as assessor, chairman and supervisor in the town of Johnson and was also a member of the school board. 
 

After coming to Abbotsford on Dec. 21, he became a member of the First Presbyterian church, of Abbotsford.
