Rouse, Clarence E. (14 Dec. 1889 - 28 July 1953)

Clarence E. Rouse, 63, of Stevens Point, was killed instantly in a two-car collision at the junction of Highways 150 and 45, five miles west of Neenah, Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Rouse, formerly of Abbotsford, had attended the funeral of Walter Jackson, that afternoon. Mrs. Rouse went to visit her sister at a hospital at Fond du Lac and Mr. Rouse started the return trip to Stevens Point with Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Walsh and their daughter, Mrs. Loretta Peltier, of Wisconsin Rapids, the driver of the car.

Mrs. Peltier, traveling west on Highway 150, told authorities that she had stopped at the intersection and did not see any vehicle approaching. Arthur Leadingham, of Polar, driver of the other car, told authorities that he stepped on his brakes but was unable to stop. His vehicle, traveling south on Highway 45, reportedly skidded on the concrete, made slippery by rainfall.

Mr. Leadingham and Mrs. Peltier did not require hospitalization, but both Mr. and Mrs. Walsh were hospitalized, but were not in critical condition. Mr. Rouse apparently suffered a skull fracture.

The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at St. Stephan’s Catholic church, Stevens Point. The remains will be at the Boston Funeral Home until the time for the services.

Mr. Rouse was born Dec. 14, 1889, and was a barber by trade. He operated a shop in Abbotsford for a number of years. On Nov. 18, 1913, he was married to Anna Adrian, of Colby.

Surviving him are his widow, one son, Robert, of Spokane, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Webster Durfee, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; Mrs. Fred Zwilling, of Columbus, Ohio; and Mrs. Wayne Peterson, of Stevens Point. There are 18 grand children; four sisters and two brothers.
