Castner, Albert (26 JUN 1868-10 JAN. 1946)

Albert Castner, 77, died At St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan 10. Mr. Castner was born in Monroe county on June 26, 1868, and he was married on Dec. 30 1896, to Maude Davis at Loyal.

He came to Clark county with his parents in an ox-drawn wagon when he was two years old and received his education in the district school near Loyal. He worked in the woods and as a farm laborer, then bought a farm near Loyal, where he lived until moving into the village in 1941.

He was a school board member, town clerk and town supervisor.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Forrest of Antigo and Harry, John and Royal of Loyal; three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Roesler of Thorp, Mrs. Nina Wolter of Loyal and Mrs. Grace Kosmosky of Eau Claire; a brother, Daniel Castner, of Loyal; a sister, Mary, in the west; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Five children and six brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Castner was a grandson of Daniel Mack, one of the first  two white men to settle in Loyal township. Mr. Mack and his brother, Erestus, came to this vicinity at the same time, in 1856.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the home and 2 o’clock at the Methodist church, with the Rev. M. E. Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Loyal cemetery.

Those who served as pallbearers were George Zuehlke, Frank Schultz, Herbert White, Albert Rueth, Frank Coryell and William Deuermeyer. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. August Fricke, Mrs. Frank Coryell, Mrs. C. C. Taylor, Mrs. Herbert White, and four granddaughters, Patricia, Helen, Carol and Marcella Castner.

The hymns "In the Garden" and "Some Time We’ll Understand" were sung by J. R. Colby, Mrs. Calvin Prior and Mrs. G. W. Nelson, with Mrs. A. D. Wickland as accompanist.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Roesler of Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Castner and children of Antigo, Mr. and Mrs. John Kosmosky of Eau Claire, Irving Mengel and Mrs. Clarence Emling of Curtiss, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Heckel, Henry Boe, John Castner, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Berg, Misses Valda and Jeanette Castner, all of Marshfield, Mrs. Ray Kauffman of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mortimer of York, Mrs. R. Davis, Mrs. Martha Castner and Miss Ora Davis of Granton, and Mrs. Martha Hoffman and daughter and W. Hoffman of Spencer.

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a loved one.
