Adams, Darius (10 Nov. 1917 - 4 Aug.
2009)
Darius "Dan" Adams, 91, of town of Lynn,
died Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the Bethel Nursing Center in
Arpin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Friday, August 7, 2009, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home,
Marshfield. Father Jerome Naduvathaniyil will officiate. Burial
with military honors conducted by VFW Post No. 1866 will be in the
town of Lynn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Adams,
Jason Handke, Dan Burns, Bill Dahlke, Butch Quicker and Bob
Barth.
A time of visitation will be held from 4
p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Adams was born November 10, 1917, in
West Allis, a son of Daniel and Martha (Hopp) Adams. He graduated
from West Allis High School. Darius served in the U.S. Navy during
World War II as part of the 5th Medical Battalion. He served in Iwo
Jima, Japan and Hawaii. Following his military service, Darius
returned and attended St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in
Rochester, Minn., where he received his nursing degree.
On June 22, 1946, in West Allis, Darius
was united in holy marriage to the former Hazel Breseman. She
preceded Darius in death.
Mr. Adams became the first male nurse
anesthetist at the Mayo Clinic and later accepted a position with
Saint Joseph's Hospital and was the first nurse anesthetist there
as well. He was associated with Saint Joseph's Hospital for 28
years.
Dan and his wife Hazel owned and operated
the town of Lynn Store for many years.
Some of Dan's hobbies included hunting,
fishing and winding fishing poles and fly rods; he also enjoyed the
company of his cat "Baby."
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic
Church, Loyal, and a member of the Granton Rotary Club.
He is lovingly survived by brothers, John
(Vivian) Adams, Bainbridge Island, Wash., Benjamin (Betty) Adams,
St. Paul, Minn., and David (Marlene) Adams, Montello, as well as
many nieces and nephews.
One brother Theodore and sisters,
Marcella and Genevieve, preceded him in death.
