Roettger, June Virginia (24 Aug. 1929 -
18 July 2009)
PEPIN -- June Virginia Roettger, 79,
passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009, at her home in Pepin. She was
surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Hixon
Township to Walter Lou and Myrtle Mary Ruggles. June spent her
childhood helping on the family farm north of Withee.
June attended and graduated from
Owen-Withee. She married James J. Navarre on July 31, 1948. They
farmed in the Stanley area and then moved to Lake Elmo, Minn. They
were later divorced. She married Edward H. Roettger on May 27,
1965. He preceded her in death.
After her marriage to Ed, their family
moved back to Withee. They purchased a small farm. Following Ed's
death, June sold the farm and moved to Pepin. She fulfilled her
life-long dream of traveling by getting her class "A" CDL license,
purchasing a semi-tractor and driving cross-country with Carl
Barnes, also of Pepin. After their trucking career ended, June
became an in-home day care provider until her retirement.
June is survived by her children: Linda
Navarre of Lake Lillian, Minn., Steven Navarre of Arlington, Ore.,
Lon (Joy) Navarre of St. Paul, Minn., Debra (Jim) Sexton of
Wabasha, Minn., Greg (Rita) Navarre of Colby, Lisa (Roettger)
Hetzel of Oceanside, Calif., Todd (Lisa) Roettger of Mondovi. She
is also survived by her brother, Jerry Lee (Ethel) Ruggles,
Columbus, Miss., sister, Mary Lou Cluff of Tucson, Ariz. and her
partner, Carl Barnes. In addition to her husband, Edward H.
Roettger, she is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers
(James Walter and Robert Darrell) and an infant sister, Evelyn
Myrtle.
June had requested cremation. There will be no funeral or visitation. Instead, a memorial will be held Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carl Barnes residence, N1081 County Road N, in Pepin. A short tribute will begin at 2 p.m. All friends and family are welcome to enjoy a light lunch and to share memories in celebration of June's life.
