Lynn Claire Catlin, son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Catlin, Loyal, was born in Loyal on August 1, 1897. He
attended the public school in that village, and the Wisconsin
Business College in La Crosse. Upon finishing his educational
training he learned the cheese makers trade. Next he worked in the
Louis Laemle Store in this city. On April 17, 1917, he joined
Company A, 127th Infantry, Wisconsin National Guard, of
this city, to serve his country in the World War. He served a
period of two years and three months, half of which time was spent
in Winchester and Liverpool, England, in the army mail service. His
dispatch to England came about through quarantine regulations that
prevented a number of men from sailing for France with the
contingents to which they were attached, when they arrived at Camp
Merrit, New Jersey. Returning home from England, he resumed work as
a cheese maker at Loyal. Six months later he came to this city.
Most of the time since living here he has been serving as the local
representative of the Metropolitan Life Insurance
Company.
Mr. Catlin was married to Miss Manila
Knickel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Knickel, by the Reverend
F. Halsey Ambrose, of the Marshfield Presbyterian Church, February
15, 1920. Mr. and Mrs. Catlin are the parents of two children,
Eunice 7 and Betty Jane 4.
Fraternally, he is affiliated with Marshfield Lodge No. 224, Free and Accepted Masons, the American Legion and the Elks. Politically, he is a progressive Republican. His hobbies are motoring and fishing.
