Edwin Paul Schroeder was born in Curtiss,
Wisconsin, August 25, 1894. He attended the public schools in that
city. Three years later Edwin went to St. Paul to work in a
wholesale grocery house. He held this job a year and then became a
fireman on the Soo Line Railroad with a run out of Stevens Point.
Since then he has been with the Soo Line, except for one year spent
in the signal corps of the United States Army during the World War.
He was stationed at Vancouver Barracks in Washington state.
Enlisting as a private in Stevens Point in February 1918 he
received promotions to corporal, sergeant and mess sergeant,
holding the last named rank when dismissed from the service on
February 3, 1919. Soon after resuming his work with the Soo Line,
the base of runs were transferred to this city; eight years
ago.
On October 16, of the same year, he was
promoted to the rank of engineer. For some time he has been running
as a fireman on passenger trains number 17 and 18 between
Marshfield and Duluth. Prior to taking this run, he had a run on
the Nekoosa Line. His mother died in 1908, and his father died in
1914.
Mr. Schroeder was married to Miss Ida
Specht, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Specht, of Marshfield, by
Reverend Hubert Stehling at the parsonage of the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, April 7, 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder are the
parents of two children: Edwin Jr. 6 and Rae Jean 4.
Fraternally, he is affiliated with the Marshfield Blue Lodge of Masons, the Eagles and the Stevens Point Local of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He also is a member of the Marshfield Bowling Association; last season he bowled with the Eagles of this league. Politically, he is a progressive Republican. His hobby is fishing.
