Irving Floyd Dow, son of Mrs. Cora Dow, Chili, was born in the town of Fremont, Clark County, March 12, 1897. He attended the public school near Chili, and assisted his father at farmwork until the death of his father in 1912. He then managed the farm for his mother. In 1919 he went to Fargo, North Dakota, where he spent four years working as a cook and waiter in restaurants. Returning to Chili he worked a few months at the carpenter trade on his own. Then he accepted employment with the Krasin Brothers, building contractors, remaining with them for two years. Next, he worked on the construction of the Purdy School addition, and the Marshfield Clinic building, in the employ of Contractor Molzahn of La Crosse about a year. Leaving this job, he followed the carpenter trade a few months again on his own. Three years ago he entered the employ of Van’s Service Garage, now the Reif Services Garage, where he has since been identified.
