George Dominick Schils was born on a farm near Cedar Grove, in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, September 4, 1888. He attended the Catholic and public schools at Cedar Grove, and the dairy school of the University of Wisconsin, graduating from the University in March 1907. He accepted a position as cheese maker in a factory at Lake Church, in Ozaukee County, which he held two years. Next he followed his trade at Green Leaf, Brown County, for three years. The next five and one-half years were spent in other lines of work; three and one-half years operating a hotel in Cedar Grove, and the rest of the time operating a poolroom and bowling alley in the city of Sheboygan. Leaving Sheboygan he resumed his trade in a cheese factory and grocery store near Merrill for ten years. He moved to Neillsville April 1, 1928, and operated a cheese factory and skimming station. It was destroyed by a fire a few months ago. He moved to this city the early part of this month.  
 

Mr. Schils was married to Miss Anna Buettner, daughter of Mrs. Philip Buettner, Port Washington, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, at Lake Church, by Reverend William Gerschbach, February 14, 1911. They have seven children: Estella 17, Victor 15, Virginia 13, Gregor 11, Dorothy Ann 9, Rosemary 7 and Junior 5. 
 

Fraternally, he is affiliated with the Merrill Council of the Knights of Columbus. While living near Merrill he served as the treasurer of a school district and the treasurer of a Farmers’ Telephone Company for some time. Politically, he is Independent. His hobby is fishing.
