Louis Hugo Rach, Route 2, Granton, was born on a farm in the town of New Holstein, Calumet County, Wisconsin, April 1, 1887. He attended the public and Catholic schools in the community of his birth, and lived there until he was 21. He worked on the farm of his father, John Rach, now of Kiel, Wisconsin. Leaving the farm, he became an apprentice in a cheese factory in Chilton, holding this job for one year. He then worked for a year in cheese factories in the town of New Holstein, near his father’s farm in Selica, Fond du Lac County, and in the town of Beaver, Clark County. In November 1911 he entered the cheese manufacturing business for himself in a factory in the town of York, Clark County; purchased from William Gerlach and known as the Town Line Factory. Disposing of it two years later, he built a factory in North Loyal, town of Beaver, and operated it four years, Selling again, he spent four years in the employ of the C. E. Blodgett Cheese, Butter, and Egg Company of this city as the manager of their Stanley warehouse. Resigning from this position, he again engaged in the cheese manufacturing business in his present factory, purchased in March 1922. 
 

He was married to Miss Hattie Greiner, daughter of Mrs. Ed Greiner, Marshfield, in the Catholic church at Greenwood, January 10, 1912. Their children are: Edgar 15 and Mildred 13. 
 

He is a member of the Central Wisconsin Cheesemakers, Buttermakers and Dairymens Advancement Association. Politically, he is Independent. His hobbies are fishing and hunting.
