Charles Gust Woodkey, 714 West Arnold
Street, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Woodkey, Loyal, was born in
Lowell, Wisconsin, September 15, 1894. When he was five his parents
moved to a farm in the town of Sherman, Clark County, where he
attended the public school. His education was supplemented with a
study course through correspondence school. Until 1917 he assisted
on his father’s farm. He then purchased a 60-acre tract of
timberland in Sherman and engaged in farming on his own. In 1918 he
annexed his father’s farm, an eighty adjoining his sixty, and
operated the enlarged farm until it was sold in the fall of 1924,
when he came to this city. He entered the employ of the Standard
Oil Company as an attendant at their Fourth Street Filling Station
at South Maple Street and has remained with them. During that time
he received two promotions; in September 1926 to rural salesman,
and last March to his present position.
Mr. Woodkey was married to Miss Viola
Kuehn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Kuehn, 500 North Wood
Street, Marshfield, in Woodstock, Illinois, January 2, 1919. Two
children were born to them: Ilene 7 and Audrey 5. Mrs. Woodkey died
April 27, 1923. On December 12, 1925, Mr. Woodkey was married to
Miss Hilda Kuehn, also a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kuehn, by the
Reverend W. J. Ferne in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church,
Marshfield. One child was born to them, a daughter, Marjorie
2.
Politically, he is a Republican, and his hobby is motoring.
