Phillip James Wieden, son of William Wieden, Houston, Texas, a former hotel keeper of this city, was born in Dorchester, Wisconsin, April 14, 1904, where he lived until 11 years old, when his parents moved to this city. He attended the Dorchester public school and the local St. John’s and Sacred Heart Parochial Schools. In 1921 he left for Los Angeles, California, where he worked six months for the James Iron Works. He then enlisted in the United States Army, trained at Fort McDowl on Angel Island, five miles from San Francisco, and then left with about 900 other recruits for Honolulu, Island of Oahu, Hawaiian Territory, to join Battery C, Eighth Regiment of Field Artillery, where he was stationed two years and ten months. 
 

Returning to Los Angeles, where he was discharged from the army, he resumed work in the James Plant in that city. Six months later he went to Chicago. There he obtained employment as a switchman for the Indiana Harbor Belt Railway. Four months after starting work he met with an accident in which he sustained serious injuries. Following his recovery from these injuries, a few months later, he visited his father in Houston, after which he came to this city in the spring of 1927. Since that time he has worked for the Blodgett Cheese, Butter and Egg Company, in the poultry department; for the Marshfield Telephone Exchange, on the job of underground cable installation; helped out as a taxi driver; and for the gas filling station company. While with the taxi company he met with his second serious accident, which happened Christmas Eve in 1927; when his taxi collided with a Soo Line train, causing injuries that disabled him ten months. 
 

In sports in the army he figured prominently in both baseball and football, making records that won him places on the Hawaiian department all-star teams of 1924 and 1925. He played catcher in baseball and an end position in football. During a part of the first summer following his return to this city, he was with the local city baseball team. He also was a member of Company C, 128^th Infantry, Wisconsin National Guard, that year. 
 

Mr. Wieden was married to Miss Gertrude Ehrlich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Ehrlich, West Fourth Street, Marshfield, in Winona, Minnesota, September 17m 1928. He and Mrs. Wieden are making their home at 316 South Central Avenue. His mother died in 1920. 
 

Politically, he is a Democrat. His hobbies are athletics and fishing.
