Ernest Louis Schroeder, son of Christian
W. Schroeder, town of Lincoln, was born near the village of
Postville, Allamakee County, Iowa, February 2, 1896. He lived in
that county up to 17 years of age, when he became a student of Oak
Park Academy, an Adventist institution in Nevada, Iowa, through
which he worked his way by serving as a helper at a sanitarium near
the school. While a student, he was called into the army for
service in the World War and received an assignment to the medical
corps, in which he spent five and one-half months at Camp Pike in
Arkansas. His studies were resumed in this school following his
discharge from the army. Graduating in the spring of 1919, he
entered the service of the Iowa State Adventist Conference as a
licensed missionary, which work he followed a year and eight
months, consisting mainly of musical directing and tent master
duties at evangelistic meetings in Albia, Iowa, and assistant
pastoral duties at various other points in that state. Next he
spent about a year in the employ of a brick and tile company in
Nevada, Iowa, and then embarked in farming near Chili, seven years
ago. A year later he moved to a farm in Lincoln. His work as elder
here extends back three years, previous to which time he served as
the leader of the congregation two years.
His wife, to whom he was married in an
Adventist church in Lansing, Iowa, during July 1918, was formerly
Miss Iola Van Buskirk. They have two children: Harold 9 and Dorothy
7. Mrs. Schroeder is a daughter of Peter Van Buskirk, Ames,
Iowa.
Politically, he is a Republican. His hobby is reading.
