Herman Henry Henning was born at New Holstein, Calumet County, April 6, 1870. In 1875 his parents moved to a piece of land six miles south of Chili in the town of Fremont, Clark County. They were among the first settlers of that township, much of which was unbroken wilderness. It was necessary to clear timber off a place before Mr. Henning’s father could erect the family home, which was a crude log house. Mr. Henning attended a school in the township, which was in a log house, and said to be the first school in this community. After leaving school he helped on his father’s farm summers, and worked in the woods in Clark County for the Necedah Lumber Company winters, until 18 years old. He spent two years as a clerk in a general store in Chili. Then he entered into business for himself, dealing in hardware and farm implements, with the buying and selling of logs, wood and bolts. He continued in this business until 1920, when he moved to this city. Since coming to this city he has been with the Roddis Lumber and Veneer Company, much of the time as a buyer and scaler of logs. 
 

Mr. Henning married Miss Cora Fraser of Chili, in this city in 1900, at which time he was in business in Chili. They have two children: Curtis and Maynard. 
 

Politically, he is a Republican. His hobbies are fishing and hunting.
