Edward John Riplinger was born on December 25, 1883, at Rozellville, Marathon County. He attended the public school at that community. At the age of 14 he accepted employment in a printing office in Glidden, and followed the printing work for ten years. He then worked out of Fond du Lac on the North Western Railway Line as a brakeman, and then spent two years doing telegraphic work on the Soo Line. He then came to Marshfield and worked in the Soo Line yards as a yard clerk, bill clerk and cashier in the freight office. Leaving the employ of the Soo Line, he followed the vocation of bookkeeping until three years ago, when he entered the office supply business.
