George Smith Ives was born in Hartford, Wisconsin, March 17, 1891, and received his education in the Heathville District School, 12 miles west of Marshfield. He was the owner of the first garage in Clark County, which was located at Chili. In 1907 he accepted a position with the Hayden Boiler Works in this city. On December 17, 1910, he joined the United States Regular Army and was sent to San Antonio, Texas, where he served three years, and then was honorably discharged. Following discharge from the army, he was employed in San Antonio, El Paso, and Galveston, Texas; then in Pittsburg, Kansas; after which he returned to Wisconsin. At the time of the World War, he again joined the army and served for seven months as an instructor in Liberty Ignition in the Air Service Training Mechanics School in St. Paul. Later he was employed by the St. Paul Electric Company as a serviceman. 
 

He was married to Miss Katherine Shereck at Lankin, North Dakota, December 27, 1920. Mr. and Mrs. Ives have one son. The family returned to Marshfield in 1924, at which time he was employed as chief engineer and master mechanic at the Roddis Lumber and Veneer Plant. 
 

Fraternally, Mr. Ives is affiliated with the Elks, Odd Fellows, Modern Woodmen and the William J. Lesselyong Post, American Legion. He is president of the Wood County Beekeepers Association. Politically, he is Republican. His hobby is experimenting with electrical appliances.
