Edward Joseph Sheif was born in the
village of Unity, Marathon County, Wisconsin, July 13, 1886. When
he was two years old his parents moved to this city. He received
his educational training in St. John’s Parochial School.
After leaving school he spent four years as an apprentice, and
several years as a full-fledged cigar maker in the John G. Hoelz
Factory. The next three years were spent following his trade at
different points in Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. In
1909 he entered the cigar-making business in Eagle River,
Wisconsin. A year later he returned to this city and worked a year
for the cigar-making firm of Kohl and Herman. He then conducted a
factory of his own, this time in Antigo. Two years later he sold
the factory, and worked in the William Goedes factory in
Neillsville. Two years later re-entered the employ of Kohl and
Herman. When this firm dissolved partnership, Mr. Sheif continued
with Mr. Kohl until Mr. Kohl sold out, and then returned to the
William Herman factory five years ago, his present place of
employment.
Mr. Sheif was married to Miss Caroline
Schunk of this city, November 18, 1911, at Bessemer, Michigan. They
have two sons: Victor 14, and James 8.
