William Frederick Montgomery was born in
Neillsville, December 28, 1895. He graduated from the high school
in that city in 1914. In 1916 he took a position at the Omaha
Depot. While serving in this position, he entered Company A, Third
Regiment, Wisconsin National Guard, the Neillsville unit, for
service in the Mexican Border Campaign, where he spent several
months. Upon his return home he was re-instated in his position
with the Omaha Line. In April 1917, following the United
States’ entry into the World War, Company A, of which he was
still a member, was again called out, this time for guard duty at
the ore docks in Two Harbors, Minnesota. Two months later he was
released from the military service, following which he resumed his
work at the Neillsville Omaha Depot. Soon afterwards he was
promoted to the position of cashier, which he held three years. He
then became connected with the Bartmann Shoe Store in this
city.
Mr. Montgomery was married to Miss Julia
Florence of Marshfield, in Wisconsin Rapids March 28, 1917. They
have two children: Forrest William 9 and Robert Lee 5.
Fraternally, he is identified with the Blue Lodge of Masons, the Eagles and the Rotary Club. Of the Eagles he is a former president and vice president. Politically, he is non-partisan. His hobby is motoring.
