William Frederick Montgomery was born in Neillsville, December 28, 1895. He graduated from the high school in that city in 1914. In 1916 he took a position at the Omaha Depot. While serving in this position, he entered Company A, Third Regiment, Wisconsin National Guard, the Neillsville unit, for service in the Mexican Border Campaign, where he spent several months. Upon his return home he was re-instated in his position with the Omaha Line. In April 1917, following the United States’ entry into the World War, Company A, of which he was still a member, was again called out, this time for guard duty at the ore docks in Two Harbors, Minnesota. Two months later he was released from the military service, following which he resumed his work at the Neillsville Omaha Depot. Soon afterwards he was promoted to the position of cashier, which he held three years. He then became connected with the Bartmann Shoe Store in this city.

Mr. Montgomery was married to Miss Julia Florence of Marshfield, in Wisconsin Rapids March 28, 1917. They have two children: Forrest William 9 and Robert Lee 5.

Fraternally, he is identified with the Blue Lodge of Masons, the Eagles and the Rotary Club. Of the Eagles he is a former president and vice president. Politically, he is non-partisan. His hobby is motoring.
