Fred James Altmann was born on a farm in
the western part of the city, December 8, 1899. Here he received
his education in the graded and high school. After leaving school
he worked on his mother’s farm until 17 years old, when he
accepted employment as a clerk in the Kliner, Lang and Sharmann
Hardware Store, with which he continued until it was discontinued
to make way for the Trio Theatre. Next he made a sight-seeing trip
through the west. Upon his return home, he entered the employ of
Weber Brothers as a clerk in one of their stores and held this job
four years. He then accepted a position as salesman in the Rembs
Store, which he is still occupying.
Mr. Altmann was married to Miss Helen
Magdalene Veit of Dorchester, in St. John’s Catholic Church
in this city, by Father Paul Monarski, June 15, 1925. Mr. and Mrs.
Altmann have one son, Jerome, two years and seven months
old.
Mr. Altmann is the recording secretary of the John Eisen Council, Knights of Columbus, a member of the St. Joseph’s Society and the Eagles. Politically, he is Independent. His hobbies are motoring and radio.
