Henry is a native of the neighboring city
of Colby, where he was born on November 18, 1909. His parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Matt Orth, moved to a farm just outside the village of
Unity, when he was nine years old, and he obtained most of his
education at Unity, being graduated from the high school there in
1927.
After graduation he gratified his desire
to see something of the United States by traveling, engaging in a
number of occupations in many states during the next three years.
Among the states where he was employed were Pennsylvania, Missouri,
Iowa, North and South Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska. He also spent
some time in Canada. Returning to Wisconsin, he was employed by the
Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company store in Marshfield in 1930. After
two and one-half years here, he worked as relief manager in Wausau
and Mosinee stores for three months before becoming manager of the
company’s east side store in Wisconsin Rapids. He was also
employed at Eagle River for a time before taking over as manager of
the store here in September 1935.
Mr. Orth was married to Miss Anna
Grossbier, Marshfield, on February 12, 1934. They have one son,
Robert, who is a year old.
Mr. Orth is a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. His love for travel is his nearest approach to a hobby.
