Max Richard Wegner was born in Berlin,
Germany, October 13, 1877, and came to this country with his
parents, and three brothers, when he was a boy. The family settled
in Neillsville, and three years later, moved onto a farm five miles
southeast of that city, where he made his home until he moved to
this city, 26 years ago. He attended the public schools in and near
Neillsville. After leaving school, he worked on his father’s
farm for a time and later learned the trade of bicycle repairing.
After locating in this city, he opened a bicycle repair shop in
which he continued or a number of years. Then he associated himself
with F. Wood and Herbert Burt, to engage in the hardware and
general repair business, which later developed into the Marshfield
Hardware and Auto Company, where he remained until May 17, 1916. He
then sold his interest in that company, and joined Paul Pirwitz in
the organization of the Wegner-Pirwitz Company.
Mr. Wegner was married to Miss Ida
Pirwitz of Neillsville, on January 1891. They have three sons, and
six daughters: Mrs. Paul Hintz, Herbert, Alma, Irma, Walter,
Gerald, Margaret, Frances and Kathryn.
Politically he is a conservative Republican. His hobbies are hunting and fishing.
