Makinen, Mose (26 SEP 1876 - 19 APR 1953)

Mose Makinen, a resident of this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) for 41 years, passed away after a lingering illness of six months.  He was 76 years of age.

Funeral services were held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen, April 22, with Rev. Henry Aukee officiating.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Ensio Bjorn, Ellerd Havelin, Matt Bombach, Art Finnila, Eainer Finnila and Theodore Jensen.  In charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. Ellerd Havelin, Mrs. Art Finnila, Mrs. Matt Bombach, Mrs. Ensio Bjorn, Mrs. Theodore Jensen and Mrs. Arnold Bjornstad.

Mose Makinen was born on Sept. 26, 1876 in Ruovesi, Finland.  As a young man of 24 years of age he came to America in 1900, settling in Michigan where he worked for several years in the ore mines at Wakefield.  In 1912 he came to Owen, purchasing a tract of land south of town which he developed into a fine farm and lived until the time of his illness six months ago when he entered the hospital.  In 1918 he was united in marriage to Lydia Sandstrom in a ceremony performed at Wakefield, Mich. And the two of them worked hard in community and church affairs.  Mr. Makinen held many offices in the Bethany Church of Owen, of which he was a charter member.

Surviving him are his wife, one son, Toivo and one daughter, Mrs. Owen; a sister, Mimi Makinen, living in Tampere, Finland, and a brother Ephram of Amasa, Mich., and Newell (Helga) Wilson, and two grandsons.
