Deutschlander, Mary Ann #2 (19 JAN 1949 - 30 JUN 1953)
Mary Ann Deutschlander, four and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Deutschlander, was killed instantly Tuesday afternoon by a car near her home, three miles north of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).
The girl was struck by the car when she made a dash across the road from a grassy ditch, according to authorities. Mary Ann and a sister, Jackie, were following their older brothers and sisters to the farm of their uncle, Emil Deutschlander, to get their bicycles.
Driver of the car that struck the girl was John Klineck, 56, Rt. 1, Thorp. Klineck told authorities that he did not see the girl. She was taken to a Thorp doctor where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the investigation of the accident Tuesday by Sheriff Dobes and John Bergemann, county coroner, a coroner’s inquest was ordered Wednesday. W.J. Mahoney, William Hoag, Fred Post, Art Lysdahl, L. E. Bulgrin and O. E. Parkinson, all of Owen, were named on the coroner’s jury. The group viewed the scene of the accident and the car involved Wednesday afternoon.
The date for the hearing was set for Tuesday, July 21, 1953 at the Owen City Hall.
Besides her parents the girl is survived by six other brothers and sisters.
Brief funeral services will be held at the Thorp Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday and the body will be taken to the Lutheran Church where the Rev. M. K. Zimmerman will conduct the service. Interment will be in the East Thorp Cemetery.
