A nuptial service in St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Stevens Point which was performed Saturday, June 20, 1953 by the Rev. Jens J. Vander Graff united in marriage, Miss Dorothy E. Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thompson of Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), and Gordon Nels Christian Sorenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Sorenson of Plainfield.
Mrs. Gilbert Sether, Stevens Point, sang "O Perfect Love" and "The Lord’s Prayer" during the ceremony. At the reception Miss Mary Ann Smith, sorority sister of the bride sang "Because" and "Through the Years."
The Rev. Granville Calhoun, Plainfield, gave the wedding prayer during the ceremony, and the Rev. Alvin Lindgren pronounced the benediction at the close of the rites.
The bride, who approached the altar on the arm of her father, was attired in a gown styled with a bodice of white embroidered organdy, having a sweetheart neckline, short sleeves and a peplum. The overskirt of embroidered organdy over taffeta extended to a short sourt train. Her fingertip veil was fastened to a Juliet cap and she carried an orchid on a white Bible.
Mrs. Douglas Graham, a sister of the bride, filled the roll of matron of honor. She wore a gown of organdy over ice blue taffeta with a broad V neckline and a bouffant skirt.
The bridesmaids, Mrs. Walter Wied, Milwaukee, a sister of the groom, and Miss Rita Fontaine, Mosinee, were dressed in frocks designed like the matron of honor. Each wore a braided head dress of daisies and carried colonial bouquets of pink carnations.
Knute Sorenson, Madison, the groom’s brother, was best man. Jack Sullivan, Madison, and Bill Nims, Massachusetts, were groomsmen. Kenneth Kennedy, Tomah; Douglas Graham, brother-in-law of the bride and Arthur North, ushered.
Donna Kay Sorenson, Plainfield, Hancock, niece of the groom, and Estelle Kettwig, Richmond, were flower girls. They wore short organdy frocks with puffed sleeves. Each carried a small bouquet of carnations.
Preceding the ceremony the couple were honored at a luncheon given by Mr. and Mrs. Arnie Epple, after the ceremony a reception was given in the church parlors.
Both bride and groom are graduates of Wis. State College, Stevens Point. The bride was a member of Tau gamma Beta Sorority and the groom of Sigma Theta Epsilon. The groom is a student pastorate at Richmond Methodist Church. He is now attending Garret Seminary at Northwestern University. His bride will be teaching in Milton Junction.
The couple were honeymooning in northern Michigan and will, on their return live at Lake Lorraine, Delevan.
Guests at the wedding were from Waterloo, Ia., Chicago, Evanston, Ill., Madison, Milwaukee, Sturgeon Bay, Richmond, Watertown, Billevette, Oregon, Plainfield, Curtiss, Abbotsford, Neillsville, Wild Rose, Allenton, Mosinee, Wausau, Tomah, Mauston, Weyauwega and Elcks. The Curtiss guests were Mr. and Mrs. Art Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bakke, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Peterson and Tommy, Mrs. C. M. Peterson, Mrs. C. O. Peterson, Miss Kathryn Peters, and Mrs. Frank Matthias, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. Cornell Erickson.
