Marking, Harriet L. (13 JUN 1953)
Miss Harriet Lucille Marking became the bride of Donald Forrest Carrier at a three o’clock ceremony Saturday, June 13, 1953, in Central Lutheran Church, the Rev. J. R. Hestenes officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Marking, Owen (Clark Co.), Wis., and Mr. Carrier is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold N. Carrier, Edgerton.
White peonies filled the altar vases and baskets of red and white peonies formed the background for the double ring ceremony.
Escorted by her father, who gave her in marriage, the bride wore a white satin gown with a full skirt ending in a court train. The snug fitting bodice was fastened with tiny satin buttons, a beaded headdress held a fingertip illusion veil and she carried a bouquet of American Beauty roses.
Miss Bonnie Jean Marking, sister of the bride, as maid of honor, and Mrs. Marie Johnson, sister of the groom, wore aqua dresses of net over taffeta with matching headpieces. Their bouquets were of pink and white carnations.
Harold Carrier Jr. served his brothers as best man. Ushers were William Johnson, Edgerton, brother-in-law of the groom, Lester Hanson, Withee, Wis., and Jack Davidson, River Falls, brother-in-law of the bride.
Mrs. R. C. Powers, Prairie du Chien, was organist for her sister’s wedding and accompanied another sister, Mrs. Jack Davison, as she sang "The Lord’s Prayer" and "Oh Perfect love."
A reception for 100 guests was held in the church parlors after the ceremony and later a buffet supper for the immediate families was served by the groom’s parents at their home.
The bride chose a powder blue suit with white accessories for her wedding trip through the western states, stopping at the Black Hills and Yellowstone National Park.
Mrs. carrier is a graduate of the Owen Public Schools and Central State Teacher College, Stevens Point. She has taught fifth grade in the Edgerton grade school for several years. The groom attended the Edgerton Public School and the Janesville Vocational School for Engineers and is now employed as an electrical contractor at Carrier’s Electric Store.
The young couple will be at home after June 30th at 617 Swift St., Edgerton.
