Roehl, Walter E (–2009)
Walter E. Roehl, 92, of Granton died Saturday,
Aug. 22, 2009, at Memorial Medical Health & Rehabilitation
Center, Neillsville.
Walter was born March 24, 1917, in the township
of Fremont, Clark County, to Herman and Clara (Ackerman)
Roehl. He received his education at Cozy Corner School in
Fremont. He married Verna A. Gaulke April 20, 1940, in
Nasonville. She preceded him in death Nov. 15,
1972.
He
worked on the Mississippi Dam in Iowa, did trucking for his brother
Glenn and was an agent for Seneca-Sigel Insurance Company and a
member of the board of directors. During that time, Walter
also operated a dairy farm for 37 years until his retirement in
1979.
Walter enjoyed deer hunting, dancing, playing
cards and casino trips. He served on the Maple Grove School
board for nine years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran
Church, Nasonville.
Walter is survived by his daughter Janice
(Richard) McKearn, Granton; two sons, Jerald Roehl, Arizona, and
Gene Roehl, Granton; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and
one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Lila Nelson, Marshfield;
two brothers, Leo (Verna) Roehl and Carl (Delma) Roehl, both of
Chili; very good friend, Irene Tischendorf; and many nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
He
was preceded in death by his wife, Verna; one grandson, Gary Roehl;
four brothers, Glenn, Russell, Alvin and Harvey; and two sisters,
Verna Cartensen and Evelyn Roehl.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday,
Aug. 25, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church, Marshfield, with the
Reverend Jordan Scott officiating. Visitation was from 4 p.m.
to 8 p.m. Monday at the Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, and
from 1 p.m. until the time of services at the church.
Interment was in the Town of Lynn Cemetery, Granton.
Pallbearers were: Lowell, Erlin, Everett,
Kenneth, Raymond and LaVern Roehl.
Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted Walter’s family with arrangements.
