Lila Sackett, 86, of the Fairchild Senior Living Apartments passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Lila Lydia Sacket, daughter of Charles and Florence (Gerhardt) Asplin, was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Neillsville.  Growing up in the Neillsville area, she attended Tioga Country School.  Lila was one of 10 siblings, so after her education she helped with the home chores and she also worked for an elderly neighbor couple.

She was united in marriage July 22, 1940, to Lloyd Orville Sackett in Neillsville. The couple made their home in Fairchild, Neillsville and Alma Center before moving to Black River Falls.  After her husband passed away in January of 1984, she continued to live in Black River Falls until moving to a senior apartment in Eau Claire in the mid 1990s.

While in Eau Claire, she volunteered with the Eau Claire County Senior Program by serving meals at the Eau Claire Senior Center. For the past five years she had made her home at the Fairchild Senior Living Apartments.

Lila loved her role as homemaker. She enjoyed cooking for her large family and tending to her many gardens. While living in Black River Falls, she had been employed at the Jackson County Courthouse.

She is survived by six sons, Lewis and Patricia Sackett of Eau Claire, James and Jodi Sackett of Greenville, SC, Jesse and Pat Sackett of Rockland, Bruce and Lori Sackett of Globe, AZ, Vernon and Ann Sackett of Greenville, SC, and Mark Sackett of Mesa, AZ; four daughters, Lila and Charles Jones of Queen Creek, AZ, Susan and Dave Scholze of Humbird, Donna Sackett of Myrtle Beach, SC and Laurel and Wade Meek of Black River Falls; two brothers, Hubert Asplin of Dilworth, MN, and Donald Asplin of Madison; three sisters, Velda Walker of Osseo, Jean (Wendell) Suckow of Marquette, MI, and Betty Asplin of Corpus Christi, TX; 37 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Harold Sackett, grandsons, Eric and mac Sackett; and siblings, Florence Beyer, William Asplin, Lois Wendt and Lorraine Newlieb.

Private funeral services were held in the Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls. A visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 8, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
