Martens, Donald "Don" W. (3 May 1923 - 8
September 2009) With Flag
Donald "Don" W. Martens, 86, resident of St. Joe
City, ID died Sept. 8, 2009 at St. Maries, ID.
He
was born May 3, 1923 to John and Frieda (Henchen) Martens at
Neillsville. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II
in the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1946 and returned
to Wisconsin. He moved to Spokane, WA, before moving to
Priest Lake, ID, where he worked for a local lumber mill. He
moved to St. Joe City in 1960, where he worked for Regulus Stud
Mill as well as various other mills. He retired from Regulus
in 1984. He never married. He worked as a machinist
building model engines for vintage aircraft in his
retirement.
He
is survived by sisters Charlotte Gress of Neillsville and Isabel
Wilson of Milwaukee; nephews and nieces: Steve Gress of Vesper,
Sally Schmid and Rebecca Konkel of Prescott, AZ, Mont Gress of
Neillsville, Joel Gress of Wichita, KS, and John, Jeffrey, Jerry
and Cathy Wilson of Milwaukee; as well as his many friends at St.
Joe City and the surrounding area.
Graveside services were held Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries, with Father Timothy Richey officiating.
