Nirva, John (26 SEP 1875 - 28 JUN 1954)


John Nirva died at the Santa Monica Hospital June 28, 1954 of a heart attack after being hospitalized for three weeks.


He was born at Vaasa, Finland in Europe on Sept. 26, 1875 and came to Ely, Minn. As a young man. Later he and Mary Maki were united in marriage, continuing to reside at Ely for several years when they moved to this community, settling on a farm south of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1912.


In 1944 his wife passed on and he moved to Los Angeles, Calif., living here until his death.


He is survived by one son, William of Owen, one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence E. (Bertha) Starr, Los Angeles, three grandsons, Chester Nirva, Withee and Bruce and Brian Starr of Los Angeles, two great-granddaughters, Gail and Amber Nirva, and numerous other friends and relatives.


Funeral services were held at Griebenow’s Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, July 3rd. Rev. W. Clayton Nielsen, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, officiated and burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.


The pallbearers were Ted Piekola, Henry Cass, Kalle Kakkonen, John Rosenquist, Ted Hium and John Roohr. In charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. Ted Piekola, Mrs. Ellerd Havelin, Mrs. L. Simon, Mrs. Wally Havelin, Mrs. Thorvald Stigsen and Margaret Horner.


Out of town relatives here for the funeral were his nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Nirva of Detroit, Mich.
