Spaete, Robert P. (12 JUL 1934 - 29 AUG 2009)
Robert Paul Spaete, 75, of Boring, Ore., died Aug. 29 at his home. A celebration of life was Saturday morning at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sandy, Ore., and burial with military honors was in Finley-Sunset Hill of Portland, Ore.
Mr. Spaete was born July 12, 1934 to Paul and Helen Spaete in Neillsville. He attended Washington High School in Rice Lake where he was quarterback of the football team. He graduated in 1953 and then attended UW-River Falls where he played football his freshman year. He graduated in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and mathematics. He married Peggy Weiss on June 5, 1954. He served in the Marine Corps for 21 years. He served in management and leadership positions including battalion commander, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He earned his master's degree in technology of management from American University in Washington, D.C. He taught Marine graduate students through the University of Southern California during a tour in Okinawa, Japan. He retired as lieutenant colonel in 1997 and moved to Boring, Japan (sic). He worked as manager at Freightliner Corp. in Portland. He was promoted to general manager of government vehicles, reported directly to the president and was responsible for all obligations involved with government contracts. He was a certified Oregon Master Hunter, president of White Water Boaters of Oregon, president of Wildlife Development Assn. and a member of Oregon Hunters Assn. and Gresham Chapter of Elks. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Peg; three children, Gregg, Bobbe and Ted; five grandchildren; three brothers, Gordon, Dennis and Dick; and a sister, Beverly.
A grandson preceded Mr. Spaete in death.
