Sommer, Pauline L. (19 June 1855 - 1 Jan. 1954)

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline L. Sommer, 98, of Green Grove, were held on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at St. Paul’s Lutheran church, towns of Green Grove and Colby. The Rev. William Grafe was the officiating clergyman.

 

Pallbearers were Sylvan Sommer, Victor Heschke, Walter Laabs, Adloph Stacke, Otto Sommer, Jr., and Donald Sommer, all grandsons of the deceased.

The church choir, accompanied by Mrs. Walter Stocker, sang, "Now the Light Has Gone Away," and "Asleep in Jesus". The Ladies’ Aid, of which she was a member, sang, "Nearer My God to Thee".

Mrs. Sommer passed away on New Year’s day, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Woik, with whom she had made her home for the past 17 years. Death was caused by old age complications.

 

Mrs. Sommer was born June 19, 1855, in Germany. When a young child she came to this country with her parents, settling in Sheboygan county. She received her education in this country. On Feb. 19, 1874, she was united in marriage to William Sommer, of Chicago. In 1880, they moved to the town of Green Grove, settling on a farm, which is now occupied by a grand son, Vernon Sommer. In 1937, because of ill health, she came to make her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Paul Woik.

She was preceded in death by her husband and the following children, Mrs. Louise Galles, Mrs. Selma Heschke, Hilda Sommer, and William Sommer, who passed away this past Dec. 8. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers and one sister.

 

She is survived by the following children, Mrs. Lydia Laabs, Otto Sommer, Theodore Sommer, Rev. A. G. Sommer, and Mrs. Paul Woik; by 24 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren, besides many nieces and nephews.

 

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Rev. and Mrs. A. G. Sommer, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Kronour of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. William Sommer, Vernice Sommer, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvan Sommer, Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Sommer, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Sommer Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Otto Sommer, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Walter ***Note: The rest of the article was cut off and was not available at the time of transcription.
