Bernard M. Schommer,
president of the town of Hull Mutual Insurance Company and clerk of
the town of Hull for 33 years, died Thursday at St. Joseph’s
hospital, Marshfield, where he had been a patient since Wednesday
after suffering a stroke at his home on Route 1, Colby. He was 75
years old.
Funeral services were
held at 9:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic church. The
Rev. Vincent Schwarze officiated. Burial took place in the Colby
cemetery.
Mr. Schommer was born
April 21, 1879, in Michigan. In 1914 he came to Colby and settled
on a farm in the town of Hull, where he had lived since. His first
marriage was to Catherine Guelff, who died in February, 1920. His
second marriage, to Bertha Simion, took place at Colby on Nov. 22,
1922.
Mr. Schommer is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Valerian) Zilisch, Denmark; two sons, Norbert Schommer, St. Charles, Minn.; and Harold Schommer, Colby; three brothers, Lambert Schommer, Marshfield; Casper Schommer, Ventura, Cal.; and Ray Schommer, Kaukauna; three sisters, Mrs. Carl Johnson, Colby; Mrs. Einar Olson, Abbotsford; and Mrs. Albert DeBruin, Kaukauna; three grand children and a great grand child.
