Four bridal aides, all
dressed in pink, preceded Miss JoAnne Markus, of Colby, Saturday
afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, when she exchanged marriage vows
with Harold Goelden, son of Mrs. Edgar Lenhard, of Athens. The Rev.
Otto H. Hoffmann officiated at the rites for Mr. Goelden and the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Markus, Colby, at the Zion Lutheran
church, Colby.
A sister of the groom,
Mrs. Robert Kilty of Marshfield, was matron of honor; Miss Marlene
Strebe, Stevens Point, and Miss Audrey Krueger, Marshfield, cousins
of the groom and bride, respectively, were the bridesmaids; and
Miss Carole Lou Ketterl, Marshfield, a cousin of the bride, was the
junior bridesmaid.
Their gowns were
strapless, with fitted bodices of lace over taffeta worn a matching
cape and the full length fully gathered skirts of net over taffeta
highlighted with two horizontal net ruffles repeated the entire
length of the skirts. Tiny half hats of net had clusters of flowers
on either side, and for flowers each attendant had a bouquet of
white carnations.
The bridal gown had a
fitted bodice of Rosepoint lace over traditional bridal satin,
Queen Anne collar, long sleeves coming to points over the hands,
and tiny lace covered buttons closing down the back, and the skirt
had a matching lace over skirt atop tiers of imported nylon tulle
with an insert of tulle that going completely around the skirt.
The finger tip veil of
nylon tulle was attached to a scalloped queen’s crown of
Rosepoint lace and tulle lit with sparking sequins and glowing
pearls. The bride carried a bouquet of pink roses.
Robert Kilty, Marshfield,
was best man for his brother-in-law. A cousin of the bride, Robert
Ebert, Wausau, and a brother of the bride, David Markus, Colby,
were the groomsmen. Ushers were Malcolm Cendt, Abbotsford, and Paul
Dins, Colby, the latter a cousin of the bride.
The bride’s mother
was attired in a pink dress with white accessories and a corsage of
white carnations and pink rosebuds while the groom’s mother
wore navy blue and white accessories and her flowers were pink
carnations and rosebuds.
Activities of the day
included a reception was held at the bride’s home and a
supper in the church parlors. Wedding guests came from St. Anthony,
Idaho, Marshfield, Wausau, Medford, Abbotsford, Stevens Point,
Athens, Owen, Spencer, Unity and Milan.
The bride, a graduate of Colby high school, is employed at the Colby Phonograph printing office in Colby. Her husband, who was a graduate of the Abbotsford high school, is an employee of the Johnson Block and Silo Company, Colby where the Goeldens will reside after returning from a honeymoon to Yellowstone National park.
