Withee

The day has not come for us to talk much about the crop. Most of us are yet busy with the stumps. While some have most of their land cleared, still the majoirty have enough stumps to keep them busy for many years to come.

It will be several years before we will see an elevator in our town, but if everything continues to move as it has higherto, we will not be behind prairie towns in that respect.

Felix Douphner's two year old colt was kicked pretty badly by a horse last week.

The Danish school closed last Friday, Aug. 31. Its teacher, N. C. Nielsen, left for Cedar Falls, Iowa, last Tuesday. He will re-enter the school at Des Moines, Ia., Oct 1.

P. Sorenson of West Superior came to Withee with his family last Monday. They have moved into P. C. Peterson's house, where they will stay until their own home is completed.

The plasterers are busy fixing up the upper rooms in the school building. On that account the school will not open before next Monday. Sept 10.

The north side of our town is looming up considerably at present. If we continue to build in the same direction, we will reach the Danish church before many years.

Pastor Nielsen's wife is improving daily and will soon be able to be up.

There is a movement among the Danes to build a hall. One party has promised to give a lot, and others will furnish lumber, etc. It is especially the young people who favor the thought. If they will unite and use their influence it will be an easy task to build it.

Messrs. O. and C. Andersen are right in it with their road work. The heavy rains cause them to suspend work now and then, but in a month or so we expect to be able to drive clear to the county line on the new road.

P. Quist, of Longwood, brought three ears of corn to town the other day as a specimen of his corn crop. He is proud of having the finest crop of corn in his vicinity.
