Weideman, Margaret (21 Jan. 1907 - 14
Apr. 1956)
Funeral services were held Wednesday
afternoon for Mrs. Henry Weideman, 49, who was killed instantly
when struck from the rear by a car, while walking on Highway 29
Saturday evening. Final rites were conducted at Christ Lutheran
church at 2:00 o’clock, with the Rev. F. H. Sprengler
officiating.
Two favorite hymns of the deceased, "What
a Friend We Have in Jesus,"
and "Beautiful Savior" were sung by the Sunday School teaching
staff, composed of the Misses Carol Amacher, Joyce Behrents,
Shirley Kalepp, Dorothy, Marilyn and Muriel Kieser, Delores Olsen,
Karen Runzheimer, and Connie Weiler.
Pallbearers for the internment, made in
the Abbotsford cemetery, were Gerhard Anderson, Walter Gasch, Frank
Hughes, Ed Lueth, William Pupp, and Roland Voelker.
The many beautiful floral tributes were
carried by the Misses Donna Anderson, Gladys Kuenzi, Lenora Lueth,
Lucianne Pupp and Sandra Zink, Abbotsford; Dorothy Gasch, Colby;
Dorothy, Nancy, and Mary Hughes, Marathon; and Mrs. Clyde Schultz,
Edgar.
Mrs. Weideman was born Margaret Alice
Melvin in Jackson county, Jan. 21, 1907, and received her education
at Black River Falls and at Eau Claire State College. She taught
for 11 years in Clark and Marathon county schools.
After her marriage to Henry Weideman,
which took place at Wausau May 6, 1936, the couple took up
residence at their present home east of Abbotsford, on Highway 29.
Two daughters were born to this union, both of whom survive their
mother.
Mrs. Weideman was active in school,
community and church work. She served as president of the
Parent-Teachers’ Association at the time of her death. She
was a member of Lutheran Ladies’ Aid and had served on the
board of education at Christ Lutheran church. She was bookkeeper
for the Hull Telephone Company for the past year.
Survivors are her husband, two daughters,
Joanne, 18, and Hazel, 12, her mother, Mrs. Lydia Melvin,
Abbotsford; three brothers and three sisters: Mrs. Harley (Loretta)
German, Curtiss; Mrs. George (Elizabeth) Hempfner, La Crosse; Mrs.
Roland (Genevieve) Gasch, Francis and Archie Melvin, all of
Abbotsford; and Capt. William Melvin, of Ft. Sill,
Oklahoma.
Her father died in 1945 and an infant
sister also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Weideman and her daughter, Joanne,
were walking from home to Abbotsford, Saturday night, near 8:00
o’clock when the accident occurred which cost the life of the
mother. Miss Weideman suffered a badly bruised right leg. Elroy V.
Weiler, 25, driver of the car, which was also headed west, told
authorities he had swung out to pass another car and did not see
the pedestrians until he struck them. Both cars were traveling west
and in the same direction the Weideman’s were walking. The
accident happened about one-half mile east of here.
