THORP -- Vincent G. Slowiak, 88, of Thorp died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley. 
 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Burial will follow in New St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery. 
 

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Thorp Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. rosary service, and at the church Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. 
 

Vincent Gabriel Slowiak was born April 20, 1921, in the town of Thorp, rural Clark County, to Anthony and Frances (Ciolkosz) Slowiak. He was united in marriage to Marie Polak on July 31, 1948, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. They lived in Chicago after their marriage, and Vincent worked for Aetna Ball Bearing for more than 40 years. He retired in 1987, and they moved to Thorp. 
 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie, of Thorp; two brothers, John (Alice) Slowiak of Park Ridge, Ill., and Ted (Dorothy) Slowiak of Niles, Ill.; three sisters, Julie Pober of Carmel, Ind., Victoria Slowiak and Therese Slowiak, both of Chicago. 
 

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
