Bailke, August (3 Sept. 1891 - 12 Apr.
1954)
Funeral services for August Bailke, who
died Tuesday, were held this afternoon at the funeral home at
Greenwood. Mr. Bailke formerly farmed in this vicinity before
moving to a farm near Greenwood.
According to reports, Mr. Bailke had been
fighting a fire on his land and was plowing a furrow around the
buildings with his tractor. He suffered a heart attack and was
found dead by his son, Marvin, about 10 feet away from the
tractor.
Mrs. Louis Nacker, Abbotsford, is a
daughter.

Funeral services for August Bailke, 63,
who died of a heart attack at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 19, while at
work on his farm, near Greenwood, were held Thursday afternoon. The
Rev. F. H. Sprengler conducted the rites at the Schiller Funeral
Home at Greenwood and military rites were conducted by the American
Legion Post of Greenwood. Mr. Bailke was a veteran of World War I.
Burial was made in the Braun settlement cemetery.
August John Carl Bailke was born Sept. 3,
1891, in Shawano county, where he received his education. On May 8,
1920, he was married to Freda Clara Zastrow, at Medford.
They operated a farm three miles west of
Abbotsford and moved from there to the Fiebig farm, south of
Abbotsford, having been in this community for 26 years. A year ago
last November they moved to a farm in the town of Warren. Mr.
Bailke suffered the fatal heart attack while fighting a brush fire
that was getting too close to the farm buildings.
Surviving, besides his widow, are: two
sons, Leroy Bailke, at home, and Pfc. Marvin Bailke, U.S.M.C., Camp
Pendleton, Cal.; three daughters, Mrs. Louis (Bernice) Nacker,
Abbotsford; Mrs. Bernard (Genevieve) Frye, Madison; and Beatrice
Bailke, at home; one grand child, six sisters, Mrs. Victor Sauve,
Muskegon, Mich.; Mrs. Matilda Konkel, Marion; Margaret Hertel and
Edythe LaLonde, Milwaukee; Mrs. Gertrude Tisch, California; and
Mrs. Mary Lauerdorf, Marinette; three brothers, Edward Bailke,
address unknown; Leonard Bailke, Muskegon, Mich.; and Lester
Bailke, Marinette.
Two brothers, Roy and Gilbert, preceded him in death.
