Clifton, Percy #2 (9 JUN 1880 - 29 JUL 1954)
Percy Weir Clifton was born at New Richmond in St. Croix County on June 9, 1880.
He moved to Withee (Clark Co.), Wis., with his parents in 1901 where he became engaged in the barber business with his brother Roy.
In 1904 he was united in marriage to Alice Marie Mink at Thorp, Wis..
In 1909 he moved to Owen where he continued in the barber business until 1948 when he was forced to retire on account of ill health. He then moved onto his farm 3 ½ miles north of Owen, and for a couple of years he seemed to regain his health and was able to resume active work.
In 1951 he again had to give up and was confined to his bed two years prior to his death on July 29, 1954 at Bethel Convalescent Home at Arpin, Wis.
Prior to that he had been hospitalized at Marshfield.
Percy, as he was called by old and young, had many friends in and around Owen. He was a member of the Businessmen’s Club and served on the Village Council for several years. He also organized the first city band in Owen.
He leaves to mourn, his wife Alice, two sons, Floyd E. of Madison and Kenneth of Stratford. A son, Aaron, preceded him in death in 1930.
Twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.
The funeral was conducted from the Griebenow Company Funeral Parlor on Saturday, July 31.
Burial at Riverside Cemetery, Rev. Meinhardt conducting the services.
The pallbearers were Wallace Hull, Ray Dearth, Jack Olds, Pete Madsen, Bill Mattson and Julius Johnson.
In charge of flowers were Rose Kanaack, Mary Weaver, Rita Morley, Lottie Gabriel, Amelia Dearth and Orpha Hull.
