Mierkey, Evelyn (Marriage - 6 July
1955)
Miss Evelyn Mierkey, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Evan Mierkey, of Colby, was given in marriage by her father,
to George Tautges, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Tautges, of Birnamwood.
The double ring ceremony took place on Wednesday morning, July 6,
at St. Philomena’s Catholic church at Birnamwood at 10:30,
followed by a nuptial high mass, with the Rev. Michael Drexler
officiating.
The bride wore a ballerina length gown of
white net over taffeta with rhinestone settings in the bodice and
jacket. Her finger tip veil, edged in lace, was held by a narrow
crown of rhinestones and pearls. She carried a colonial bouquet of
red roses and white carnations with ribbon streamers.
Mrs. John Tautges, Wittenberg,
sister-in-law of the groom, was matron of honor. Miss Carol
Mierkey, Colby, sister of the bride, and Miss Catherine Tautges,
Birnamwood, cousin of the groom, were bridesmaids.
Their ballerina length frocks were all
designed to wear jackets with the strapless bodices. Yellow was
chosen for the matron of honor; blue for Miss Mierkey and pink for
Miss Tautges. Their colonial bouquets were made of matching and
white carnations.
Attending the groom as best man was his
brother, John Tautges. Paul Tautges, a cousin, and Cecil Johnson, a
friend, were groomsmen.
Mrs. Mierkey wore a blue dress to her
daughter’s wedding and Mrs. Tautges chose pink. Both mothers
had corsages of pink and white carnations pinned to their shoulder
lines.
Dinner was served to the wedding party
and immediate relatives at Kasson’s Country club, in Antigo
and a reception and wedding supper were held at Chet and
Emil’s ballroom where a wedding dance was also held in the
evening.
Guests attended the wedding from
Abbotsford, Colby, Antigo, Aniwa, Chicago, Ill., and Stockton,
Calif.
The new Mr. and Mrs. Tautges are making their home in Chicago where the groom is employed at St. George hospital.
