Two survivors of a fatal automobile crash near Owen early Tuesday morning have been released from Victory Memorial hospital at Stanley, where they were treated for minor injuries. The crash took the life of Kenneth L. Swanson, 24, Eau Claire, who was crushed to death beneath his car when it missed a curve and rolled over twice. 
 

Edward Short and Jack Kaufman, both of Eau Claire, were reported released from the Stanley hospital Wed. Short told Clark County Traffic Officer William Nelson that the men were returning to Eau Claire from Neillsville where they visited friends. 
 

The accident occurred on a curve about a mile east of Owen. The car sheared off two guard posts, 108 feet apart, before going between two more on the south side of the road. It apparently had gone off onto the north shoulder of the road and then rolled over at least twice after it was pulled back onto the highway, the investigating officer said. It rolled down an embankment onto the body of Swanson, who had been thrown from the wreckage. 
 

The accident was the fifth fatality in Clark County.

I was shocked to discover the article! He was my cousin and I knew about his death...but, I was just 10 years of age at the time and remembered only bits and pieces. Ken was such a kind person and so loved by all of his family. I miss him dearly to this day. When Ken's mother (my aunt) died...her doctor said that if anyone could ever die of a "broken heart" she did while mourning the loss of her son!
