Benzmann, William Ernest (19 Apr. 1868 -
18 Oct. 1955)
William Ernest Benzmann, 87, died Tuesday
at 1:20 a.m. at the home of his niece, Mrs. Fred Woempner, with
whom he had been making his home the past 11 months. Dropsy and a
heart condition caused his death.
Funeral services for Mr. Benzmann, a
former resident of Dorchester, will be held at St. Peter’s
Lutheran church, at Dorchester, Friday afternoon at 2:00
o’clock. Internment will be made in Memorial cemetery. The
body is lying in state at the Fuchsgruber Funeral Home in that
village.
Mr. Benzmann was born in Germany April
19, 1868, and received his education there. He arrived in the
United States on June 24, 1884, and settled in Dorchester, where he
farmed and later was employed by the Soo Line Railroad. After the
death of his first wife, Bertha Steinke, whom he married Jan. 21,
1913, he was wed to Wilhelmina Schmidt on June 18, 1934. His second
wife died Dec. 8, 1954, and since that time he had made his home at
the Fred Woempner residence in Abbotsford.
He is survived by a brother, Paul
Benzmann, Milan; 12 stepchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and 13
step-great-grandchildren. Three sisters who preceded him in death
were Mrs. Pauline Bremer, Summit Lake; Mrs. Frank Fitzlaff and Miss
Mathilda Benzmann, Dorchester.

Funeral services for William Benzmann,
87, who died Oct. 18, at the home of his niece, Mrs. Fred Woempner,
were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at St.
Peter’s Lutheran church at Dorchester. The Rev. F. H.
Sprengler conducted the services. Internment was made in the
Memorial cemetery at Dorchester.
Pallbearers were John Habeck, Otto Busse,
Albert Fenske, Walter Nixdorf, Elroy Broeske, and Arthur
Baehr.
Relatives and friends attending the funeral came from Wyoming, Bowler, Summit Lake, Curtiss, Prentice, Milan, Medford, Unity, Colby, Chippewa Falls, Dorchester and Abbotsford.
