Hillert, Harold G (9 January
1926 - 27 September 2009) With Flag
Harold G. Hillert, 83, of Granton died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
Harold was born Jan. 9, 1926,
in the Town of Fremont, Clark County, to Fred and Barbara (Frei)
Hillert. He received his education at Cozy Corner School and
Granton High School. He married Marcella Prestil in 1968 in
Ashland.
Harold served in the U. S.
Army in the 2nd Infantry Division as a field engineer
stationed in Germany, Japan and in the Korean Conflict at
Heartbreak Ridge. He later served in the Army Reserve and
National Guard. After his discharge from the Army, he worked
on road construction in Ashland. He moved to Racine and then
to Waterford until 1973. He moved to Marshfield in 1973 and
worked at Graham Mfg., retiring in 1984. He then moved to
Hazelhurst and to Granton in 2003. Harold attended various
churches in the Granton area. He was a member of
Haugen-Richmond Post 73 American Legion of Neillsville, Veterans of
Foreign Wars and a charter member of the FFA in Granton.
Harold loved the outdoors and
enjoyed both bow and gun hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and
traveling, especially a recent trip to Alaska.
Harold is survived by two
stepchildren, John (Janet) Hillert of Bayfield and Phillip (Donna)
Fecteau of Lacey, WA; four step-grandchildren; one step-great-
grandson; very special friend and traveling companion, Lillian Long
of Granton; and special friends, Ronald and Dianne Vine of
Granton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcella, in July 2000; one brother, Walter; and two sisters, Frieda Vine and Velda Hillert.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, with
Pastor Mike Herdt officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m.
to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Park Cemetery,
King. There will be a military color guard by Haugen-Richmond
Post 73 of Neillsville and graveside military rites at
King.
