Winter, Henry C (4 June 1869 - 10 July
1952)
Henry C. Winter, 83, died at his farm home in the
Town of Lynn Thursday morning at 8 o’clock. The body lay in
state at the Georgas Funeral Home until Monday. Then it was
taken to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Grant,
where services were conducted. Pastor John H. Jacklin and the
Rev. Edgar Milleville of Nasonville were the officiating
clergy. Interment was made in the parish
cemetery.
Mr.
Winter was born June 4, 1869, to Charles and Elizabeth (Hillert)
Winter in Sherman Township, Sheboygan County. He worked as a
young man in and around Milwaukee. In September, 1891, he
came to Clark County and farmed in several townships. He
served as director of the Lynn Mutual Insurance Co. and for ten
years was president of the Lynn Mutual Cyclone Insurance Co.
He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church since March
10, 1893. He was deacon of the church for 39 years, secretary
of the church for 30 years and its treasurer for 15 years. He
was also assessor of the Town of Lynn for one
year.
Mr. Winter was married on January 15, 1893, to Lydia Sauter at Sheboygan. Nine children were born to them, seven of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Herman (Ida) Gluch of Granton; Mrs. George (Della) Borchert, Milwaukee; Louie Winter, Arno Winter and Celon Winter of Granton; Mrs. Norma Marg at home with her father, and Ruth Winter of Neillsville. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Carl Winter of North Prairie; two sisters - Mrs. Louise Witt and Mrs. Clara Meyer of Milwaukee. Mrs. Winter died December 20, 1918. On May 2, 1932, he was married to Emma Thiede at Granton. She preceded him in death July 4, 1951. Two children, Walter and Eleanor, one sister, Ida, and four brothers, Edward, Otto, Robert and Fred, also preceded him in death.
